Auto Emblems in Australia - The Ivan Hoffmann Collection

This web-site presents emblems (also referred to as badges, mascots, scripts, logos etc.) displayed on automobiles since the introduction of the horseless carriage and have been collected by Ivan Hoffmann. The Collection is mostly "uncommon" early emblems of marques and contains about 300 makes of automobiles. In July 2024 this Collection was donated by Ivan Hoffmann to the National Motor Muesum, Birdwood, South Australia.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz is a German luxury and commercial vehicle maker since 1926. Karl Benz (financier); Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach (engineer) are behind the creation of the first Mercedes. The name Mercedes comes from the name of the daughter of the European automobile entrepreneur working for Daimler (i.e. Mercedes Jellinek).

Mercedes-Benz emblem comprises the Mercedes three-pointed star surrounded by the Benz wreath (1926-1937), after 1937 a three-pointed star was surrounded by plain ring. The three-pointed star was initially white enamel and broad, then plain metal (or plastic) and slimmer.
